Lifeguard Job Description

Employment Term: June 29 – August 15  (with extra contract hours pre/post camp season)

Hours: Arrive at Camp each Sunday by 11:00 am. Leave Camp each Friday by approximately 5:00 pm.


Requirements:

  • National Lifeguard Service Award issued by the Life Saving Society.
  • Minimum Grade 11 Education
  • Experience working with children
  • First Aid + CPR Certification
    • BYC provides training for individuals hired without certification
  • Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) upon offer of employment.

Description:

  • Supervise all indoor and outdoor swimming activities.
  • Ensure pool safety equipment and pool activity equipment is adequate and appropriate, and that the water quality is acceptable.
  • Plan pool activities to enhance the camper’s enjoyment of the pool regardless of their swimming capability. 
  • Carry out swimming and pool aspects of the Camp Program confidently and independently.
  • Ensure campers are made to feel welcome at all times.
  • Know the camp emergency procedures and be ready to assist with their implementation of them at any time.
  • Responsible for the safety and well-being of campers at all times..
  • Assist in creating and maintaining an environment in which campers can experience positive social, emotional, and spiritual growth.
  • Exhibit responsible behaviour and be a good role model for campers.
  • Properly look after all art, craft, sport, and camping equipment.
  • Keep the pool area in a clean, orderly fashion.
