Lifeguard Job Description
Employment Term: June 29 – August 15 (with extra contract hours pre/post camp season)
Hours: Arrive at Camp each Sunday by 11:00 am. Leave Camp each Friday by approximately 5:00 pm.
Requirements:
- National Lifeguard Service Award issued by the Life Saving Society.
- Minimum Grade 11 Education
- Experience working with children
- First Aid + CPR Certification
- BYC provides training for individuals hired without certification
- Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) upon offer of employment.
Description:
- Supervise all indoor and outdoor swimming activities.
- Ensure pool safety equipment and pool activity equipment is adequate and appropriate, and that the water quality is acceptable.
- Plan pool activities to enhance the camper’s enjoyment of the pool regardless of their swimming capability.
- Carry out swimming and pool aspects of the Camp Program confidently and independently.
- Ensure campers are made to feel welcome at all times.
- Know the camp emergency procedures and be ready to assist with their implementation of them at any time.
- Responsible for the safety and well-being of campers at all times..
- Assist in creating and maintaining an environment in which campers can experience positive social, emotional, and spiritual growth.
- Exhibit responsible behaviour and be a good role model for campers.
- Properly look after all art, craft, sport, and camping equipment.
- Keep the pool area in a clean, orderly fashion.
