Lifeguard Job Description

Employment Term: July 2 to July 31, 2026 (with extra contract hours pre/post camp season)

Hours: Arrive at camp by 11:00 am on Sunday. Leave camp each Friday by approximately 5:00 pm.   


Requirements:

  • National Lifeguard Service Award issued by the Life Saving Society
  • Minimum grade 11 education
  • Experience working with children
  • First Aid + CPR Certification (available on hire for those without certification)
  • Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) & Vulnerable Sector Search upon offer of employment

Job Description:

  • Supervise all indoor and outdoor swimming activities
  • Ensure pool safety equipment and pool activity equipment are adequate and appropriate, and that water quality is acceptable.
  • Plan pool activities to enhance campers’ enjoyment of the pool regardless of their swimming capability
  • Ensure campers are made to feel welcome at all times
  • Know the camp emergency procedures and be ready to assist with their implementation at any time
  • Responsible for the safety and well-being of campers at all times
  • Assist in creating and maintaining an environment in which campers can experience positive social, emotional, and spiritual growth
  • Exhibit responsible behaviour and be a good role model for campers
  • Properly look after all art, craft, sport and camping equipment
  • Keep the pool area in a clean, orderly fashion
  • If assigned to a dorm for camper supervision, they will maintain dorm cleanliness and assist counsellors.
