First Aid Attendant Job Description

Employment Term:  June 29 – August 15 

Hours: Arrive at Camp each Sunday by 11:00 am. Leave Camp each Friday by approximately 5:00 pm.


Requirements:

  • Enrolled in an accredited Nursing Program at the University of Saskatchewan or Sask. Polytechnic or similar experience 
  • First Aid + CPR Certification
    • BYC provides training for individuals hired without certification
  • Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) upon offer of employment
  • Experience working with children

Description:

  • Responsible to ensure that adequate and appropriate first aid equipment, supplies and accessories are maintained at camp at all times.
  • Ensure safe and secure storage of medicine, drugs and medical supplies. The Medicine storage unit will be kept locked at all times when not attended to. Access will be by the First Aid Attendant and Camp Executive Director
  • Be on hand with the Camp Executive Director at weekly camper registration and will interview all campers and their parent or guardian on check-in.
  • Review camper application forms and seek information from the parent/guardian as to any medical or health condition that the Camp staff should be aware of, including medication, prescription or otherwise, being used by the camper. This information should be stored in a computer file format that maintains privacy of information of each camper. 
  • Take charge of prescriptions or other medication brought by the camper or parent/guardian, and ensure the medication container is fully and properly labelled with clear instructions for proper use.
  • Ask about any allergies or reactions to foods, plants, animals or any material, including first aid material such as band-aids
  • Work closely with the Cook to ensure campers with food allergies do not come in contact with those foods
  • Take charge of all medical emergencies at any time
  • Assist the Program Counselors and Counselors in any activities as able to.
  • Maintain in a clean and orderly fashion, the rooms and medical area assigned to them, and will assist in maintaining the common areas and grounds in a neat and orderly fashion.
